Week 84: New Car!

Our new full time car, Chevy Malibu 2017

Monday, June 26, 2017

I made a typing error last week haha! {mother - must have been the "Help" instead of "Hello" - now changed!}

Anyway, on Wednesday, we got a new Chevy Malibu 2017 full time! It's awesome! It also has wifi in it for 1 month.

Haha, we were going to still bike to save miles, use muscles, and talk to people on the street, but something happened on the same day we got the car... Elder Kelly went on the path on the other side of the road while I was staying on the path on this side because there were too many cars on the road for me to switch, and he crashed! I saw the whole thing happen! I saw the car coming out of a driveway but wasn't sure if it was in the way, but I kept looking and Elder Kelly just flips over! He hit his helmet on the ground but he was ok. The guy driving the truck was so worried though! Elder Kelly was in so much shock that he totally forgot to share the gospel with the guy though. Anyway, he is going to get a new rim for his front wheel today.

Well, today i am playing Uno, so it is an intense day.

Week 83: Mission Tour

My favorite picture of Christ. I don't know who made it.

Monday, June 19, 2017

Hello everyone! It was a good week. We had a mission tour where Elder Gavarret from the 70 came. What I gained is that I have to be bold. We teach repentance and need to commit people. Otherwise, they won't change for the better.

We saw a former investigator outside and started talking to her. We saw that she was breaking a commandment because she was stressed. So we promised her blessing by living the commandments. Anyway, we will keep in contact with her but not yet officially teach her.

We had a good lesson with the Farrells! They are so awesome and I am sad they are leaving to go to the east coast.

Tomorrow, we have a family history event to learn how to do family history research, so  we have invited lots of people to that. We are following up with them tonight if they are going. I'm pretty excited for that.

Ten ways to love from our mission monthly newsletter.

After a sweaty day of work - doing monthly goals.

Lots of mission cars (and money..) at the mission tour for half of the
missionaries in the mission.

Week 82: Transfer 14: Staying for transfer number 4 in Bloomingdale

Tuesday, June 12, 2017

We are both staying together in Bloomingdale! That means I am going to "kill" Elder Kelly as this is his last transfer in the mission.

It was a great week this week! We decided to tract a whole street for the first time in the transfer. One street stuck out to me, so after we had stopped by a few people, we walked to the street which was 1.5 miles away. We talked to a few people there and left a few pamphlets and cards. We talked to this one young woman there, too who seemed interested and we nearly followed them directly because she left the house with her sister and friend as we finished the street.. we decided to knock on one more door so we wouldn't be directly behind them and then we left. They ended up going to the library which was right next to our car. So that was funny!

Later that night, we got a phone call in the middle of a lesson and we called back. It was a woman who is actually a member. She is the mom of that young woman.

We had dinner and a lesson with them a few days after and they are all very interested!

We also biked a lot this week in the heat. We went to Addison, to Roselle and back to Bloomingdale. So, I'm trying to lose some weight haha.

I also finished the whole standard works, pretty much, this week. I started with the Book of Mormon and read the New Testament, the Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price and finally the Old Testament. I skipped Psalms, so I have gone back to that and have 140 Psalms left to read.

So it was a great week. It is hard to live the gospel, but it is worth it. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Week 81: Surprise! Temple Day!

Elder Kelly and me at the temple

Tuesday, June 6, 2017

Hello everyone! Last Tuesday I found out that we were going to the temple! So, I went to the temple today! It was great! Haha. No one in our ward could give us a ride as everyone was busy, so, luckily we found a ride with another person in another ward.

I went on 2 exchanges in a row out of the area interrupted only by some time doing Weekly Planning. It was interesting.

I went on exchanges with Elder Urness in the YSA area and taught some people in my area who are YSAs (young single adults). So, that was fun. I also went to Elgin to the public library there and they have dinosaurs on exhibit. It was a beautiful day, too. There was a little pond glistening just outside the window of the library.

I, also, went on exchanges with Elder Thornock in his area, Arlington Heights 2. We got robbed! Somehow, someone got into the car and stole another missionary's GPS. They unplugged all the USBs and left a lighter, too... It was weird. I noticed the lighter on my seat and didn't think much of it, so I moved it. I should have looked more carefully so we would have concrete evidence. Oh well!

Luckily the missionary who owns the GPS is leaving to go home next week and wasn't thinking of keeping it anyway—but leaving it with the missionaries who didn't have a GPS.

Oh and there are 9 elders and 3 sisters leaving this transfer, but only 2 sister's are coming in.... So, 5 areas are closing or merging this transfer..

We were walking yesterday and got into this part-member-less-active-family's home and it was weird. At first we were talking to the mom, who named two of her son's after elders in the past, then she had to leave and pick up her daughter's boyfriend. So, she said to stay and talk to her son. He had to leave 5 minutes later to take a test. He got his brother to come and we talked to him. It was weird, but we ended up reading one chapter out of the Book of Mormon with the last guy.

The mom isn't a member, but believes the church is headed by Christ and that it is the only one that would be fully true, but she doesn't have enough faith to conquer her addictions. So, we are helping her with that.

There are some great videos on 12 steps to recovery about different people and their experience with a specific step and their specific addiction. They are on the Gospel Library and online at https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/12-steps-to-change?lang=eng

We showed her that, too.

I don't have too much time left, but I love this church and know it is governed by Christ through Thomas Monson. It is very orderly because God is a god of order. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and has brought me closer to Christ. I know that it can for you too. And that is only the beginning... There is much to learn and it is very exciting! In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
