Week 71: Biking Again - Also, GenConf this week!

Monday, March 27, 2017

3rd time is the charm. We had set up an appointment with a former investigator, Yonnie two Tuesdays ago, but we had an apartment inspection we forgot about, so we had to cancel that appointment. Then we were going to meet on the next Friday, but he had to cancel, then we finally met on last Tuesday. Haha.

We met at a library and we looked around the 1st floor. Turns out he was at the computer, but we didn't know what he looks like haha. Thank goodness for cell phones.

Anyway, he has great potential and really wants to know God. So, it will be fun to teach him.

Oh and we texted a bunch of people who didn't have much info. One of them was put into Area Book because her name had only been on the phone. She responded and she wants to meet and we got her address. Yay! Haha.
I finally met Gio and Roy. They are a family who are recent converts. They have been having some difficulties and haven't been at church all year!

Also, we only have the car from Tuesday through Thursday, so we went biking on Friday... elder Mateski got a helmet from Bishop the night before because we had dinner with him and mentioned how we only had one helmet. Haha. So, he is lending the helmet to us.

Anyway, we had two appointments we had to bike to and the other two we had rides to. Well... Elder Mateski crashed! Into a sign. Lol. I was ahead and didn't actually see it. When I looked behind me I just see him lying in the ground haha. He wasn't injured, just exhausted. It was his first time biking and he doesn't want to do it anymore, but he has changed his mind a few times. But, then we walked the rest of the way and had to cancel with the less active. But, we did meet with Jeremy (even though we were super late!) and he loves the Book of Mormon already and wants us to come back and teach him and his cousin. (His cousin got kicked out because he was violating the Word of Wisdom and the mom doesn't like that).

Also... we might not be teaching Paul very soon... but, hopefully he will be allowed to be baptized when he can sign his own legal documents in about 2 years.

Oh and we found a dead person (died in 2014) in our Area Book listed in the member director as a less active... It was a glitch! He wasn't on the LDS Tools. The interesting part is that missionaries found him dead because we read the report. Crazy! They just walk in and see him.

Anyway, I figured out how to fix the glitch and he is not on the visible records anymore.

Anyway, I say anyway a lot. Hahaha. I know the Book of Mormon is true. It is awesome! Also Nephi is great and thank goodness for him and his brother, Jacob. Because of them, we have the greatest commentary on Isaiah by prophets who knew the way of prophesying of Isaiah and actually understood it. Wow! And how great are the words of Isaiah! If you didn't realize, I just finished reading the book of Isaiah. We live in exciting times...! In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

P.S. I'm excited for General Conference this weekend! You can see it on LDS.org at 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Week 70: Bye Bye St Patty

I made a Jenga tower from scratch. :)

Monday, March 20, 2017

Hello everyone!

'Twas a good week! We did lots of cleaning last week since we had an apartment inspection on Tuesday. We passed  of course. I, also, moved the fridge today to clean under it... and it hasn't been cleaned for a while. Haha, looks good, now, though.

Oh yeah, I am staying here with Elder Mateski. Both of the Spanish elders (Elder Hale and Elder Jeppson) are staying, too. The car share is now just between us, so we are going to have the car less, unfortunately, though.
We had a cool experience stopping by a former. We went there looking for Herbert and a guy comes out asking if we are the Christian guys. We say yes, and he isn't interested because we already came. But, I don't know if they were LDS missionaries who came last time because they hadn't really heard about the Book of Mormon. The guy we talked to was Jeremy and we show the Book of Mormon. Anyway, we are going back there to teach about it. So it was a fun experience.

Haha, we taught a lesson to an eternigator (eternal investigator) about the Word of Wisdom and she says she already knows it. Anyway, we read the section where the revelation is (D&C 89), and at the end, we ask her what she thinks of it. She goes crazy and tries to defend coffee, but we finally figure out what is wrong. Some members or someone had told her that not taking caffeine was part of Word of Wisdom, and she has medical issues and doctors have prescribed things for her with caffeine in it to help her. Anyway, we tell we can have pop and caffeine and she is just like, " oh ok!" Lol. It was funny. We had the bishop and a couple there. They helped haha. :) So, she can keep that commandment, now.

I've been reading the Old Testament from cover to cover (skipping Psalms and Song of Solomon) and I am in Isaiah 46 now. It is so great. Reading it and studying and really finding what the passages mean strengthen my testimony of this church being Christ's restored church. It is so true! It is also very interesting reading the institute manual for it and seeing what some commentators say.... I don't want to go in depth, but what Christ said to Joseph Smith in his first vision... it is true... lol.

I know that Christ is the chief cornerstone and leads this church through the Prophet, Thomas S Monson. I know the Gospel is the way to true happiness. I know that the Book of Mormon is truly inspired of God. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

P.S. I was going to wear my green tie on St Patrick's Day, but I totally forgot about it, but I still wore my green tie. Win!

Love,
Elder Kloosterboer

A bird of prey swooped in front of us pretty low. Couldn't get a picfast enough, though. It is there, though, on top of the hedge in the middle of the pic.

Week 69: Chi-Town

I can see Downtown Chicago

Monday, March 13, 2017

Good week! We had some good lessons! Haha. We had this one lesson with these black dudes where we mentioned how Lehi and his family were going to the Promised land (America) and they got a little offended. We didn't have much time to tell them what that actually means as they kept on interrupting haha, but we are going there this week again. Haha. I know the fullness of the Gospel has been restored and I know it is true! Whatever situation, my testimony just grows and grows.

When the spirit leaves in a lesson... I can see how much I need the Holy Ghost. It is crazy! God is definitely in this work, though.

We went out of the mission again to Bensenville. We could see Chicago very clearly this time. Also, we went to a member in that area who has an expensive massage chair he got for free. I got to use it! It is nice haha!

Haha, we were turning left on a road that we were going to park on and this car on the road is just going super slow, so I have to wait. Turns out that it is a cop car and he shines his flashlight at some people going inside a home. It was weird. This was right next to someone we were stopping by. Anyway, we park and stop by the person. The cop must have found out those people weren't the ones he was looking for as he did a u turn and went in the street that I had been waiting in a few moments earlier. If that makes sense..

The Assistants called us to go give a blessing to a guy in a hospital because his mom (who is a former investigator) asked them to do it. The hospital was in our area and not theirs, so that is why they couldn't do it. I didn't recognize the name, but it turns out, when I got there, he said hi and I recognized him! He is in the Naperville YSA. I was there 7-10 months ago. So, that was fun to reconnect to him and give him a blessing. :)

So, it was a good week!

'Till next time. Transfers is next week, so we will see what happens.

Love,

Week 68: Ask of God

New French T-Shirt

Monday, March 6, 2017

Fantastic week! On the Sunday before last Preparation Day, we needed to find one more new investigator. So we had decided to call one of our potential investigators who just needed an appointment to become a new investigator. And, he was the first call! :) We set up the appointment for just after Preparation Day last week (at 6). His brother was there, too, so we taught him too! So, that was cool!

Then, we taught Nick and Natalie on Saturday with some members. It was a great lesson of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End). They came to church, too! They loved it and liked the testimonies from the people of the congregation.

Our Ward Mission Leader went on vacation to Paris with a quick stop in Iceland, but he is back now. He bought us each a shirt! It is pretty cool. I'll have to take a pic of it.

He, also, used small bowls to scoop up snow in Iceland because the snow fell so much in one night. Lol.

We had a fun experience with a drunk guy who kept grabbing Elder Mateski's arm telling him to follow the money. Haha! We had been talking about stocks, so that is where that came from. We taught a bit about the Plan of Salvation mainly for his brother who is sober. Lol. It was a good lesson. Haha Elder Mateski is 19 and the drunk guy asked him how many wife's he had been through... He's like, "0, I'm only 19.. and then the goal is 1..." lol!

I had a lot of fun driving the Subaru Legacy 2017 car this week because I understood some of it's features a little better haha! It has adaptive cruise control where it can even stop for you depending on the car in front and then you can just resume and it will follow the car which has moved in front. I wouldn't even need to press on the gas. Haha, fun!  It has some other safety features that are pretty cool, too. Like beeping at me if a car is moving behind me when I'm backing and telling me if a car has moved and braking if needed. Etc. :)  It's also nice because it is only 2 months old.. :D

Also! The Joseph Smith First Vision video that I watched at the History Museum is now out for regular screens instead of that 240 degree angle. It is pretty cool. Watch it at history.lds.org. It is called Ask of God: Joseph Smith's First Vision and it is 6 minutes long.

I know that Joseph Smith truly saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know they love us very much and that the church has been restored through Joseph Smith. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Elder Kloosterboer
