Week 67: Tender Mercies of the Lord

Elder Mateski and me

Monday, February 27, 2017

Fun week! I went on exchanges on Tuesday with Elder Royce into his area. Elder Royce was in my MTC district, so it was a fun exchange. We taught some lessons and talked to this one person who had no care about religion at all. It was interesting.

We also met a Muslim guy who is very friendly and said, "You probably don't want to talk to me because I have converted 3 Christians." Hahaha. He asked if we wanted his business card, so we said yes. We may call him.

I parallel parked down a street from an appointment because literally all the parking spaces were occupied and there was a bunch of no parking places. Anyway, Elder Mateski helped me with that. Missionaries have a rule that their companion has to back them up. It was good because I don't parallel park much at all.

Anyway, we go up the street and a guy comes out of his garage and shouts a cross the street if we are Jehovah Witnesses. "No, Mormons" Haha. So he asked for a pamphlet and we talked a bit and gave him our number. We will be going back on there. It was cool because he started talking to us and asking for things instead of us starting the conversation.

The appointment we went to was pretty good because the non-member wife said she would like to come to church next week. Very courageous because she doesn't actually speak much English and is from Pakistan. So, that was neat. We didn't even bring up going to church, either...

Week 66: Specialized Training Assistants

Elder Casto and me back together

Monday, February 20, 2017

It was a great week! I met a lot more people in the area. Also, Elder Casto came with me and Elder Pace went with Elder Mateski. So, it was super fun working with my second companion again. We didn't have the car that day because the elders we share a car with were going to the temple and needed the car for shopping etc after it. So, Elder Casto and I went biking. It was fun haha! It was starting to get a little hot, but then, in the evening, it got cold haha. We talked to soooooo many people! We found two new investigators that day, the last one at 9pm! It was way fun!

Elder Mateski and Elder Pace found 8 new investigators that day.

Haha! I was driving and two women were on the street at a cul de sac and they got a little scared for their lives. Then we got out and they were talking to a woman and I realized they were the hermanas in the area haha! It was weird. We did talk to another unexpected person there and gave her a Book of Mormon. She lives in another ward, so we gave them her info. Missionary work is fun! And this work is so true!

We had Stake Conference this week. Our stake is pretty small so it was interesting going to that. We had very good talks, though! They mostly talked about the temple and how it is SUPER important to go there. It is so great! Lots of miracles were shared, too.

Also, we visited with a member and he shared some great miracles he has seen in his life. The Gospel is so true. It is the way to happiness. Living it and knowing it helps one see God's love even more.

It's been getting hot! It even got into the 70s! I'm not used to it! Haha. I hope it doesn't get cold again!

Haha, well lots of cool things happened this week, but it is too much to share! Have a great week! Look for the things God does.

Week 65: Bloomingdale!

Paul, who is getting baptized soon, was sitting next to me and we took
a lil selfie before Priesthood Opening Exercises started

Monday, February 13, 2017

What an awesome week! I feel a lot better now, too! My new companion, Elder Mateski is pretty great, too. He came from Gilbert Arizona, but lived most of his life in New Mexico. He is a very good drawer, too!

Man, our ward mission leader, Brother Filio, is crazy hilarious! I met him already, but now he is so funny! He takes in some foster children and we are teaching one right now. His name is Paul. He is awesome! He was asking us about mission life and then said he wants to go on a mission! He is on date to be baptized already, too. We took a pic together.

We are, also, teaching a less active due to medical issues. He is great, though. He got some new gadgets and helped him understand how to us the tablet and get LDS Music and Gospel Library. He has a Google Voice thing, too. Haha!

I loved this week, too, because I got to drive lots! We are in a 2 car-3 way carshare. So we only don't have the car on Sundays and Mondays. We have standing permission to go out of the mission to go to members there for dinners, too. So I drove into the Chicago Mission! That was fun haha. It would be funny to run into other missionaries when we do that.

Oh yeah. On Wednesday, we found out there are now "Specialized Training Assistants" in the mission. They basically go on exchanges with everyone, it seems. It will be interesting to go on exchange with them. Both of them are going to our area tonight. It is Elder Casto and Elder Pace. English and Spanish, meaning a zebra companionship. Also, they are the ones that came in to Normal on my third transfer (Elder Pace to Bloomington Spanish and Elder Casto to Normal with me). So, that's fun for them.

We go to a food pantry here, too and that is fun. There were a lot of volunteers!

I was reading in Proverbs 1 this week and some simple wisdom here, "10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not." Haha. So that is fun. I know that Jesus and Heavenly Father live and that they love us. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Week 64: Sickness

The Smith family - super awesome!

Monday, February 6, 2017

Elder Umphress got sick last week and now I'm sick. Yup. So, while he was sick, I read from 2 Chronicles to half way through Job! Very interesting things in there.

Haha church was good. The East elders got their neighbor's boyfriend to come to church and he spoke in Fast and Testimony Meeting. Haha it was good! He has a son who is a member and he was saying about how the conversation would go with his son about him being there.

We taught Gospel Principles and it was interesting. We didn't have much time and Lin came to church again. She came last transfer with Brother Figgins. They live in a healthcare place. Lin had many questions and it was good! Questions is the way you get answers. It is how the church was restored. So, it was fun!

Also, I'm getting transferred. First, I lived in Peoria Stake for 3 transfers, then I lived in Rockford Stake for 1 transfer, then I lived in Joliet Stake for 2 transfers, and now I've lived in Naperville Stake for 4 transfers. Now I'm going to live in Schaumburg Stake (in Bloomingdale 1st Ward) and I wonder if I'll live there for 5 transfers? So, it's fun. 5 areas in 5 out of 5 different stakes in the mission.

My new companion is Elder Mateski. All I know about him is that he has been out for 2 transfers. So it will be fun to get to know him and work with him.

Some interesting things in the Bible:

A prophet in the Bible uses sarcasm (1 Kings 22:15)

Job 19:26 is translated different in different bibles because the Hebrew is ambiguous and it depends on the translator's view of the doctrine. So, either we will see God in flesh, or we won't... I know the answer.

Thank goodness that we have another testament, the Book of Mormon, which confounds false doctrines with the Bible. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that the Bible is, also, the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.
