Week 54: Yummy Thanksgiving! Also, #LIGHTtheWORLD

Late night selfie

Monday, November 28, 2016

So I was just thinking that this transfer will be weird because transfer day is on Wednesday, December 28 and missionaries going home will go home on Friday, December 16. This is so they can go home for Christmas. So, I wonder if they will do the same for me for Thanksgiving when I go home.

Anyway.

Well this week was full of finding! Holidays are great and bad at the same time for missionaries haha. Lots of people were gone and lots of families were together.

We had a great Thanksgiving, though! We visited with members all day except for weekly planning and such. It was very productive and yummy! I, also, made s'mores :)

Oooo! The Christmas video is awesome and it is now up on Mormon.org! Go visit it! There are miniature videos for each day in December leading up to Christmas Day.  The challenge is awesome and I am super excited for it! I know the challenge will bless you as you sincerely do it. I promise you will feel more joy as you do it, too. So, I invite you all to go to the website, watch the video, and check out the challenge and do it. (Click the below calendar pics to enlarge them.)

Also, we have a Christmas breakfast this Saturday. I'm super excited for it!

On a different note, we did lots of biking this week. Also lots of biking in the dark on long roads. It is nice to see the stars away from city life, too.

I've been studying the law of Moses recently in the Old Testament. It's crazy how much symbolism goes toward Christ and what He did (what He would do in the future for them). I'm so glad that we have prophets on the earth again to dispense the gospel out to the people. I know that Christ lives. Because of Him, everything is made possible. The plan works because of Him.

I know this is His one and only church back on the earth again with His Priesthood. Only because of the ordinance done properly by His Priesthood can we be exalted and have eternal life and eternal increase. Now that can be done for the living and the dead. That is the Good News we bring to people :) God still cares. I know He does and I know He loves me and you. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love,
Elder Kloosterboer

Week 53: Twenty On The Twentieth :)

The Mongers

Monday, November 21, 2016

Hi everyone!

As you can tell, I turned 20 yesterday! Yay! Haha. On Saturday, we went to have dinner with the Maynes and he found out it was my birthday the next day, so he bought us a cake! What! It was super delicious, too! Also, Sister Smith had an extra apple pie left from the Relief Society dinner and asked if we wanted it on Thursday. We got it and I was starting to eat it on Saturday as I was reading a birthday card I got from my parents. It said, "Enjoy the Journey! (And don't forget to stop for pie.)" haha. Very fitting for that exact time I read it. So I eat some lovely hot pie with cold vanilla ice cream. :D

Also, Brother Maynes announced my birthday in Gospel Doctrine, so lots of people said happy birthday on Sunday. :)

My birthday card from the Mission President and his wife. Haha it's fun!

Oh, oh! Krish, Ganga, and Monita came to a baptism on Saturday, and, then, they went to church for all three hours! They loved it all! Krish was saying that he wanted to get baptized right then and there LOL.

We also had lots of fun adventures on the bikes this week. Elder Umphress has his own very nice bike.

We realized that some neighborhoods, only the road is public and everything else is private... lol.  Yea, we are scared to park our bikes now.

There were two fun big dogs that ran out to greet us from this one garage each time we were near the property. We realized they have an invisible fence, so we were less scared. We wanted to knock the door, but we didn't want to take the risk of having headlines say, "Mormon Missionaries Mauled to Death After Entering in a Property." Lol. They were cute but dogs, but they were barking a lot and growling.

Yes, so it was a fun week.

Thank you all that sent me birthday wishes! :)

Love,
Elder Kloosterboer

Week 52: Also, I Forgot the Cubs Won. Yay!

Zone Preparation Day

Monday, November 14, 2016

4 days and then I have hit my year mark! My trainer goes home in 2. Crazies!

So transfers is tomorrow. We got the call early this time at 8:45 on Saturday. Usually it is after 9 at least. Haha. Elder Eddenfield is going back to Rockford, but in Rockford 2nd North. Elder Umphress will be my new companion. He is coming from Schaumburg YSA, which is interesting as I came from the Naperville YSA before this ward. So, this ward will have a companionship of ex-YSA-ward missionaries. :) It will be fun. It would be nice if he brought his car here, though. He has a car that has Internet-a Chevy Malibu. Very nice!

Elder Moore and Elder Young are staying again. This will be Elder Moore's 4th transfer here and Elder Young's 3rd.

It was a very good week this week. We found out that Sister Hobbs is super solid when it comes to missionary work. We had her over at the Mongers and she got Monika and Roman to want to come to Mutual. She picked them up on Wednesday and they came with Krish as well. They loved it! They also wanted to come to church, but only Krish ended up coming because Ganga came home too late and Monika had to take care of Monita. We will be taking a picture with them today :) So, the picture will come today or next week.

We went to a friendsgiving as well, at the Hobbs. They had the Furchtsams and other people there, too! It was awesome! Brother Furchtsam said he will get Sister Furchtsam to text us after transfers for us to go over. I have only been there once and I'm excited to go over there again!

Also, we found out the Jeppesens know an investigator we got via a reassignment from Naperville 2 who found him via his boss who is a member. The Jeppesens' children both know the investigator's daughters. It was a fun moment when we all realized this. We are teaching him tonight with Brother Hobbs. We are packed tonight so much so that we had to move dinner with the Fifields back into Preparation Day. But, that's ok.

Exciting times!

Have a fun Thanksgiving!

Week 51: Regional Broadcast Happened.

Monday, November 7, 2016

Hi everyone!

It was an awesome week this week!

Last Monday, we had to be in at 5 because of trick or treators. Haha and at 4:30, a bunch of kids were already on the streets. Crazy. I can understand why we had to be in at 5 haha.

We were going to text a less active member that night to see when we can come over to teach him, but we forgot. In either case, he called us he next day and said he just got off work and wanted us to come over. So, we did. :) That hardly ever happens! So, it was nice.

We planted trees this Saturday! It was awesome! Our ward mission leader wants to do more service with his wife, so he went with us and the other elders. It was fun because it reminded me of the work I did with Irrigation. We dug holes, tore off burlap coverings, and put 3 posts with wire around the trees.

The Mongers are awesome! We taught them thrice this week. Krish came to church and watched the regional broadcast with us. He liked it too!

I loved it! I really liked what Elder Devin Durant taught about how to be a teacher like Jesus and how we are all teachers. He is very well spoken, too, and hilarious!

Back to the Mongers, we had Brother Smith, his daughter and another young woman come to the lesson Sunday night and Brother Smith invited Monika to church and she said ok. She has always been hesitant before, but now she says ok. :) Awesome! So, we hope she still decides to come on Sunday. She will have a great time. The young women in the ward will make her feel very welcome.

The Mongers, also, prepared a little food for us again. This is the third time. Haha, it was very spicy. They are such a nice family. Krish is praying everyday and it seems like they have family prayers. They have progressed so much! Ganga's English is way better now, too.

On another note, Vince dropped us because life is hectic right now for him. But, in the future he will be so ready, along with his mom. :)

I'm excited for this next week! We are trying to get members first and then setting up lessons for investigators. Working out well so far.

Transfers is next week. We will see what happens. :)

I know the Atonement is real. I know that Jesus lives and that he loves me and you. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love,
Elder Kloosterboer
