Week 1/2: Missionary Work is HARD :)

District 43C in classroom
Wednesday, November 25, 2015
Hello everyone!

Missionary work is work. lol. I've learned so much while I have been here! It's been a roller coaster of emotions, too. I had to go to the Travel Office because I was born outside of the states, so I had to show them my Driver License. My companion is Elder Whipple and he is from a small town in Logandale by Las Vegas. We and one other elder, Elder Royce, are going to the Illinois Chicago West Mission. The other elders are going to North Dakota Bismark Mission. Their names are Elder Peterson, Elder Laws, and Elder Brush. Elder Peterson is Elder Royce's companion.

We all sleep in the same room. It is pretty crowded. I should have picked a bed when I went in there the first time, but I didn't and so I have a top bunk, which is actually alright now, but it didn't have a ladder at the beginning... I realized yesterday all the elders going to my mission are on the top bunks.

We are pretty close friends now and we talk too much. lol. We haven't gone to bed at 10:30 P.M. yet or even put the lights off at that time. lol.

Turns out the Dec 07 in my mail address here stands for the departure date and so we are here for nearly 3 weeks. This is due to Thanksgiving. No new missionaries this week. Also, in March, English speaking missionaries will be in the MTC for 3 weeks and not 2. the other elders and all the sisters are leaving Dec 9 and so my schedule actually goes to then.

The sisters are pretty nice. Their names are Sister Reis, Sister Roy, Sister Hoffman, Sister Brown. The first two are going to North Dakota Bismark and the second two are going to Canada Vancouver Mission. Sister Roy is from Canada and Sister Hoffman loves it already haha.

We all have a fun time and we sit next to each other at lunch. Also, when we see the other District, we sit with them. We are in Zone 43 District C. District B left this Monday and District D came in the same time as us, but they leave next Monday. We got a double intake on our arrival into the MTC - around 650 missionaries. It will be like that again on December 2nd. At the MTC, we do a lot of practice. Our teachers turn into investigators they taught so we can practice with them. There are two so we are practicing with Sarah right now. This week we started our TRC (Training Resource Center) investigator who may or may not be an investigator or a  member or a less active member. But his name is Reed. He is cool and he is reading the Book of Mormon and prayed after our first meeting with him.

I can testify of Missionary Work. I know what I am doing is the right thing. We are just tools in God's hand and I thank him for that. I am not the best teacher, but the Holy Ghost is, and He is the one who teaches. I know that this is the true church and that we know of the fullness of the Gospel (the good news of the Atonement of Jesus Christ). I know that we have it because it is in the Book of Mormon. It brings happiness to me and I know I can become guiltless through it and gain literal strength through it. I invite you to read the Book of Mormon and look for the gospel and then pray if it is true and if it can help you. If you do this sincerely, you can receive an answer. I love you all! I will have my next preparation day on December 4th.

Love,

Elder Kloosterboer
